You know, what I am taking away from this course is a better understanding of human behavior, both mine and others. I have enjoyed how the course material always maintains an intrapersonal perspective, even when explaining interpersonal topics. This course was like a complex, nine-week self-help course. We explored every area of human motivation and accomplishment. I particularly like the sections on hope and self-respect. Since I have started studying psychology I have always enjoyed a good discussion of the ideal self and the self-concept. They are both fascinating to me. I guess the area that has really hit home with me this course is empathy. Being a man in western culture and being the personality type that I am (introverted and neurotic at times), has led to lower levels of empathy in my life than others. I have had to work on seeing the situation from other people’s perspective. This course has helped with that. I also really enjoyed the study of attachment styles. That really explains some of the tendencies in my own life. I was happy to learn that attachment styles can be altered, at least to some extent. Other than those just a better general knowledge of human behavior.
